Proclaim His Love

Our Story

How it all started...

First Baptist Church has been part of the Hazard community since 1898, we recently celebrated 125 years of service, gathering for worship and ministry on the same parcel of land downtown on Main Street all this time.  We consider ourselves a vital part of downtown Hazard. Involved in many of the downtown activities and festivals.
Our goal remains to encourage and challenge our community about the love and joy of following Jesus Christ.

Expanding the vision...

Hazard First Baptist has played a key role in flood recovery work over the past two years- having provided housing for approximately 1300 volunteers from other churches and groups. These volunteers brought resources that money could not provide, they were carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and laborers. Teens insulated, painted, and learned how to lay flooring. Volunteers brought resources and love to flood victims.

Where we are headed...

In 2024 we plan to continue the mission, by providing housing to groups from all across the nation. These groups will help with local needs, providing work on widow’s homes, building handicap ramps, doing flood relief work and providing ministry to adults and children.
We will continue to be a vibrant part of our community by operating our pantry service, working in downtown festivities, hosting High School Senior Breakfasts for every Senior in our county. We will also continue to host our annual Teacher’s luncheon. Provide Baccalaureate services and use our facilities to promote the Kingdom. But most importantly we will continue to proclaim the Word of God, seeking to share the story that can change lives for all of eternity.
We encourage YOU to be part of our story in 2024.
